Founding of The School-KFI
Information about The School
The School-KFI, founded by J. Krishnamurti, is the third of the Krishnamurti schools in India. Started in the year 1973, it is now more than three decades old, and is known for sensitive and creative education in Chennai's academic world.
Some of you are perhaps aware that it was Krishnamurti himself who suggested that the school be located in Damodar Gardens of the Theosophical Society; he named it simply 'The School' and participated in a function to lay the foundation stone. 'Let the school grow like the sands of the sea', he said on that occasion. He kept in touch with the school even when he was abroad. He also addressed the children of the school in the 1980s.
On Leased Land
For the last thirty-three years, the school has been functioning in Damodar Gardens - leased to the Krishnamurti Foundation India by the Theosophical Society. This lease ends in the year 2014. Since the lease could not be renewed, the school is now faced with the formidable task of relocating itself. This means finding another piece of land, putting up classrooms, laboratories, and other buildings, making new transport arrangements for the staff and children, and raising funds for all these.
Our Appeal
KFI, therefore, appeals to you, to all friends and well-wishers to come to its help at a very crucial time and participate generously in this endeavour of continuing its educational work.
The significance of our work lies in translating Krishnamurti's vision of education into daily action which furthers our own exploration into a way of learning and living that helps in nurturing human goodness and intelligent living.

You can support the relocation of The School by sending a cheque in favour of "Krishnamurti Foundation India", payable at Chennai. You may indicate that the donation is meant for 'The School Relocation Fund'.
