Vasanta Vihar

Vasanta Vihar is a veritable oasis of beauty and tranquillity amidst the noise and bustle of Chennai (Madras) city. Giant trees with expansive canopies, coconut and mango groves, thickets of bamboo, a lily pond, and lush green lawns adorn this six-acre property. Krishnamurti stayed here during his annual visits to Chennai, and gave talks and held discussions. It is the main Krishnamurti Study Centre in India.

The Study Centre has residence facilities for those interested in exploring the teachings for short durations. People from all over the world are welcome.

Vasanta Vihar also has a scheme for encouraging young people to come as Resident Students for extended stay and study. For details write to KFI, Chennai.

The following statements by Krishnamurti elucidate the purpose of a Study Centre:

"Vasanta Vihar is essentially a religious centre according to what K has said about religion. "

"If I went there to study what K is saying, I would want to investigate it, question it, doubt it; not just read something and then go away. I would be reading not just to memorize, I would be reading to learn; to see what he is saying and my reactions to it, whether it corresponds or contradicts, whether he is right or I am right, so that there is a constant communication and interchange between what I am reading and what I am feeling."
